Jac woke us up at around 630 because we were leaving the hotel at 730 to catch the boat to Ejit. We got up and took quick showers and we brought our performance clothes in case we had to perform when we went to the Y2Y luncheon at lunchtime. We waited for the boat a little while. Played with baby chickens and Jac made a joke about the cats eating the baby chickens and we didn’t like that. Finally the boat came and we headed over to Ejit. We weren’t going to the school because they had already missed a few days of school because of rain. We walked around for a little bit and took lots of pictures. We walked over close to the beach, which was mostly coral reef. I found a patch of sand and I decided that this was as good a time as any to write Arielle’s name in the sand and take a picture of it because she asked me to. I wrote ‘Arielle on Ejit’ and then Shelby came over and wanted to write ‘I love Ben’ in the sand as well. She went to take a pic, camera batteries died. I offered to take a pic but then hers worked. I backed off cuz I was casting shadow on the words, I tripped and dropped my camera, while still on, on the coral and it broke. I was very angry and upset and moped around the rest of the time. We walked a bit more and saw a cemetery. We went to dock and waited for boat to come. Jac showed me pretty blue fish, but I was angry so I didn’t care. Boat came and took us back. We got a cab ride back to town. Went to Tide Table to use internet and I told my mom and Arielle all about how I had broken my camera. I was very upset. Then fielding left to talk to someone really quick and met Lijon. He came back and told us, then we waited outside for her because she said that she would come. Jac went to Scott’s to explain why we’d be so late. After a long time, Lijon came by and we took some pictures. Then we went to Scott’s and talked with him for about 20 minutes. Then we went to Y2Y luncheon, but the president couldn’t come. They did a bunch of songs and thanked all of their supporters and us for coming. They played music and they gave us necklaces and leis and some boys pulled Shelby and I up to dance. More music, nuclear club joined them and sang more songs, they gave us more gifts and danced around the room. Then they had to go back and they gave us a ride to the college. We talked to them a little more in their room and we exchanged emails so that we could keep in contact and updated with what they were doing. We went back to the hotel and did a lot of homework. I got bored and stopped at about 545. I went and got ready to be picked up at 645 for dinner at the presidents house. Shelby did more homework and then about 20 till she went and got dressed. She was a bit late, as always. When we were all finally ready we went downstairs to wait outside on the curb. We waited for a very long time. A crazy guy came up to us and said something about teens wearing all black these days. We got a lot of strange looks. At about 715 this really crazy drunk guys came up and started talking to us. Jac told him that she was 20 and fielding was 25, he couldn’t tell, he was too drunk. At 730 we all went upstairs because fielding was going to call Tommy to see why they were so late. The guy followed us and jac told me to stay in front of her so that he didn’t do anything to me. As we were waiting for fielding at the front desk, the very nice and wonderful Marshallese woman told him to leave us alone and he did. We called a bunch of people trying to figure what was going on. We went outside again and waited and made lots of jokes about standing up the president of a nation. Finally at almost 9 the mayor of bikini and his wife came and picked us up. They had been at a funeral and that’s why they were so late. We went to the presidents and met him and a bunch of other people. We ate dinner and then performed, which was difficult, it was very very windy and they set up a mic to try to pick up our voices. Shelby lost her voice but most people loved it and really appreciated it. They gave us Kili baskets and thanked us again. We talked to the prez for a little while. Then at 11:30pm the mayor’s wife took us home.
My Journal
Scarred and spiral bound; decorated with great purple mountains and a clouded sky; bearing a single word "Vision".
Within it, coded memories of a three week adventure half-way across the globe are enscribed.
It is difficult to relay in text the interior of this record-keeper, which is laced with numerous hand-drawn maps, notes to self, and unexplainable doodles. I hope this blog sufficiently retells my experiences there and conveys the missions of our project, but more importantly, the inspiration.
